"I'm just an ordinary fan, who happens to like knitting and sci-fi"

As reported online on the BBC, a Doctor Who fan and knitter, has become involved in a row over... um... knitting patterns.

A Doctor Who fan is embroiled in a row with the BBC after she published knitting patterns for the sci-fi drama's monsters on the internet. The patterns of Ood and Adipose were removed from her website after the BBC's commercial arm complained that they breached its trademark. But the woman said the corporation was "making an example of her".

Oh, what a world we live in.

... because the Ood aren't ripped-off mind flayers from DnD, and Charlie Stross isn't a copyleft advocate or anything, and Mr. Stross didn't steal the mind flayers from H.P. Lovecraft...

I think this story is on Slashdot now. Isn't it odd how these mega-companies blow millions in feelgood advertising, then undo the lot with a petty, mean-spirited act like this?

Anyway, she can go ahead and knit the characters from my books .. I guarantee my publisher wouldn't sue ;-)
