Cleaning up the internet, one murder at a time – Solaris acquires new crime novel by James Goss

Solaris is delighted to announce it has acquired the first original crime novel by writer James Goss.

Haterz will be published in the UK and North American markets in March 2015.

A modern parable about the dangers of the internet age interwoven with a gripping crime novel, Goss – best known for his World Fantasy Award-nominated work on Torchwood and Doctor Who tie-in novels – presents a chilling tale of what happens when one man decides online actions must have real world consequences.

Solaris editor-in-chief Jonathan Oliver said: “Goss’s take on the crime novel is just so much fun and captures perfectly the sometimes maddening, often frustrating and always utterly nuts world of social media. Goss is a vital new talent in genre.”

Is there someone online who really annoys you? Who is always bragging, posting too many pictures and just doesn't get jokes? Look at your Twitter feed, don’t you get cross at the endless rage, bigotry and the pleading for celebrity retweets?

Meet Dave. He decides that unfollowing someone just isn't enough. He's determined to make the internet a nicer place, and he won't stop at murder in order to achieve it.

When he kills his best friend's girlfriend, he isn't planning on changing the world. She was just really annoying on Facebook. But soon Dave realises he’s being manipulated. A conspiracy are using him to gain control of something dark forming at the heart of the world wide web...

Goss has previously written three Torchwood novels, a Doctor Who novel and two radio plays. He won Best Audiobook 2010 and his books Dead of Winter and First Born were both nominated for the 2012 British Fantasy Awards.
